AWARDS FOR WEBSITE
DESIGN & CONTENT

The following awards have been presented to the website of Operation RubyThroat: The Hummingbird Project in recognition of outstanding content and/or design. We are proud and honored that these are not just "fluff" awards but are given by reputable organizations, publications, or other businesses.

Award given 6 March 2000 by
National Academy Press

Congratulations! The National Academy Press has selected the Operation RubyThroat web page as a Cool Science Link of the Month for March 2000. As the publishers for the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council, our site is visited every day by thousands of people interested in science. We help them out by searching the web looking for sites that we feel exemplify COOL -- by being interesting and important, and by presenting science-related information in imaginative, creative, and compelling ways.

We think you've done that.

The staff responsible for developing the website for the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse wants to let you know that Operation RubyThroat is featured in the March 2000 Digital Dozen.

The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC) collects both physical and virtual resources useful to math and science educators. Each month we choose a baker's dozen of websites to highlight. The sites we select must have current and accurate math and/or science content, support school improvement efforts, and include useful multimedia features or helpful navigation. In addition to being featured in this month's Digital Dozen, your site has been included in our main listing of educational links.

Award given 21 November 1999 by

Ian A. McPherson Studio Pty. Limited

Operation RubyThroat is the best available source of information on the distribution and behaviour of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) in the world. Participants in the project observe the Ruby-throated Hummingbird in their home countries and share information with peers across North and Central America, for analysis and dissemination through the Operation RubyThroat website and print publications. Participants also learn the natural history of hummingbirds, reinforce their skills in math, writing, geography and foreign language, and gain a deeper understanding of the need for environmental cooperation. The site was put together using a PowerMac G3, Adobe PageMill, and Adobe Photoshop.

This Gold Award is presented to Bill Hilton Jr. and the Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History, for an outstanding public service and a wonderful learning experience for students, young and old! Congratulations to Bill Hilton Jr. - you have a website that is The Best of the Web for MacOS.

Operation RubyThroat: The Hummingbird Project was selected as a Hot Site in the October 4, 2000 edition of USAToday.com.

Just as we do with top-rated movies and TV programs, we look daily for Web sites that are likely to be sure hits with readers -- sites that seek to astound and delight, inform or amuse -- by exhibiting something remarkable in graphics, content or both.

Your site also appeared in the print version of USAToday on October 12.

Operation RubyThroat was recognized by Scientific American on-line as its March 2001 Pick of the Web.

Skewl Sites is a monthly newsletter that highlights educational Web sites on the Internet. Our research involves examining hundreds of sites each month in order to find quality sites to present in our newsletter. Only those sites that have educational quality, along with a pleasing appearance, and friendly user interface are chosen for publication. Our readers consist of teachers and homeschoolers.

We are pleased to inform you that Operation RubyThroat has been chosen for review in the March 2001 issue of Skewl Sites.
