Columbines, with their drooping blossom, are a favorite spring
nectar source for hummingbirds across the U.S. and southern Canada.

This photo was taken in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in El Dorado County, California, during the last week of May 2001 by
Joshua Stuart Rose, then a Duke University graduate student.
